Temple-tastic Japan!

I love Japanese temples and shrines...good thing they're in abundance!

Once upon a time, back in Morioka

View of Morioka

My favorite shrine in Kitakami: Suwa Shrine...during cherry blossom season!

Beautiful!
I'll have to take a picture of the almost more impressive front gate!
Within the grounds, there are usually smaller shrines

So grand and quiet

A natural spring sheltered by an ancient tree
It was so intimidating and beautiful to stand on top of the mountain
Take a drink from the cups or wash your hands to cleanse yourself before the climb
The gathering at the Tenshoji Temple
Hachinohe is totally for the birds
Hachinohe's shrine gives new meaning to the "tori gate..."

One of these things is not like the others. One of these things will poop on you!

MINE.

Don't mind me: I'll just sit here and be ancient. It's cool

Growl, sonny!
I don't know what sort of critter it is, but it's doing a pretty good job of being awesome...and old.

And protecting the temples!
Inside the main building...so beautiful!

If you walked up a narrow, earth staircase, at the top of the ledge is a small wooden building that looks a little like a dog house.

This was inside.

Love.
